There are a number of books which dive deep into the theory, spirituality, and practice of meditation. This is not that book - thank God! Many of these books fail to meet the average person, who is curious but confused about meditation, where they are... In so doing, they often push people away from the simple act of focused breathing, which sits at the core of all meditation practices. Sukey and Elizabeth have written a fun, practical, refreshing guide to a topic and practice which continues to be misunderstood. I have purchased this book for a number of my closest family and friends, who are apprehensive about meditation, but have a deep rooted desire to learn more. Nice work!
I really enjoyed reading this! I stumbled upon it while scrolling through Instagram, read the sample, and was convinced that meditation was something i needed to start doing. This book offers a guide for getting started and carving out time even when you feel like you have none. I enjoyed their guide and feel a lot more knowledgeable about meditating and mindfulness. Their advice was useful, not only for meditating but also for dedicating time to your passions. I loved the little illustrations throughout, and I would definitely recommend this to those who had never even thought meditation should be a part of their lives.
While I really appreciate the simplicity of Just Sit and the illustrations, the history seems to give credit to the Yoga history for the current popularity of meditation, not mentioning Buddha at all. Buddhism represents an estimated billion followers all over the world today. Historically The Yoga Sutras were greatly influenced by the success and spread of Buddhism and there are many parallels between Buddha's teaching and the teachings of Patanjali (Yoga Sutras). To not even include a mention of a major form of meditation today is simplifying the practice of meditation to the point of losing it's rich history and meaning.
Really an easy book to read. Basic meditation technique.
I had tried to teach myself to mediate but had always given up. After reading Just Sit... it got me motivated to try again! It's working! Thank you for helping to take the pain out of sitting down and JUST do it... to meditate!
This is an excellent book, cleverly written and formatted. Lots of practical applications supported by fascinating vignettes. The honesty of the authors' prose was particularly effective and appreciated. I've purchased multiple copies for friends and family.
Definitely for those who know the benefits of meditation but just need that nudge.
