Since I read this book a week ago, it changed how I have been spending my time working for Children's Ministries, and I think I have accomplished more important projects this week than I could have imagined.If you are starting to burn-out, or are drowning in tasks, the wisdom in this book will give you focus. Best thing is that the techniques taught in this book can be used by volunteers, by paid staff, in very small churches, and in large churches with many, many children.I cannot recommend this book enough!

I can't say enough what a gift and impact this book has made on our children's ministry and on my role as the director. Yes, it has the incredible knowledge and know how of the sustainable system backed up by the vast expertise and experience of Ministry Architects. That is a given. The thing that makes this a real treasure is the tone, tenor and the way it serves as a piece of pastoral care to some of our most valuable spiritual leaders, our children's ministers. If you are a children's minister, buy this book. If you are a pastor buy two copies of this book (one for you and one for your children's minister) If you are a lay leader and are wondering why your children's minister always looks exhausted and you want to help have a fruitful and JOYFUL ministry, buy this book. It is excellence in every sense of the word.

I love reading and reviewing books that friends have written. It's amazing to the see time, effort, and energy that is put into writing a book and then the result is a book like this!Together, Mark DeVries and Annette Safstrom have taken what was started in Sustainable Youth Ministry and turned it over, flipped it upside down, turned it inside out, and produced a version that was specific for children's ministry. While reading Sustainable Children's Ministry, you get a sense of who Annette Safstrom is, her journey in ministry, and begin to feel like you are in trenches of a children's program right in your own church. It's an eye-opening review of why things are and are not working in your own children's ministry.However, that's not the goal of the book. The end result of the book is suggestions and resources to help address those challenges with wild success. This is now the greatest resource book for assessing your children's ministry and belongs on the bookshelves of every church.

There are so many golden nuggets in this book! I loved Safstrom's stories in that they were honest in the challenges she faced and mistakes she made in ministry. Helps me to know I'm not the only one! This book is bursting with pragmatic solutions that are presented in a way that's easy to understand and can be implemented right away. Even though the changes DeVries and Safstrom suggest will take time, those in ministry will see that it's worth the investment to work toward sustainable solutions instead of scrambling at the last minute. Short chapters make this an easy read. Everybody in ministry - not just children's ministry - should have this book in their toolbox.
