I love my Instant Pot, I want to start on the Mediterranean Diet, and I saw this book for $2.99 on Kindle. Hard to go wrong, right? Wrong. This is a basic Instant Pot cookbook, with an introduction slapped on the front about the Mediterranean diet. If you look at any information about the diet (for example on the Oldways website, free), you see that meat and poultry are at the tippy-top of the food pyramid. You are supposed to have them maybe 1-2 times per week, or less. This book has 105 recipes. 75 of them are pork, beef, lamb, chicken, or other poultry. You are supposed to have seafood a minimum of twice weekly on the Mediterranean diet. There are 15 seafood recipes. Vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats are supposed to make up the lion’s share of your calories. There are 15 vegan/vegetarian recipes. How are Mexican Pulled Pork, Duck Curry with Coconut, and Fish Chowder (with 1.5 cups of half and half!) Mediterranean? You tell me. I am not saying these recipes are not tasty, I am saying that if you are looking for a cookbook that will give you an idea of Mediterranean recipes that you can make in your Instant Pot, you should look elsewhere.I increased my one-star review to two stars, because there are actually a couple recipes which could be argued to go with the diet.

I have given this book Mediterranean Diet Instantpot cookbook a 3 because I have not tried any of the recipes yet. I am just a bit disappointed in the book and wonder if I can trust the recipe as far as ingredients and directions? I've found a number of errors in this book today just by thumbing through it. Along with the errors some of the recipes are missing important information as far as how much of some ingredients you need. It's not clear on at least one of the salmon recipes. Maybe I'm too picky? Now I may change to a higher rating after I try some of the recipes. I will have to do some guessing on some of these.

It was a very helpful jumping off point and do yourself a favor and buy this as well as the Complete Mediterranean Cookbook and the recipes have few ingredients that don't require a lot of shopping or buying ingredients you'll never use again, and are easy to follow regardless of your cooking skills and the book is informational and educational, and it includes a sample 7-day meal plan as well as several recipes and i find it easy to follow, the recipes are clear and easy, and taste really good. We bought it along with the Mediterranean Sow Cooker Cookbook (my husband love soups and stews) and find the two provide all we need to get started and this book is very practical and it provides tips to slowly include changes to create sustainable habits, not only in eating, but in exercise, and other relaxing lifestyle behaviors and with easy to understand vocabulary, this book begins by helping to understand the science behind the Mediterranean diet and how/why it works.

I am writing this review after making 9 different recipes. I realize that this is less than 10% of the total recipes in this book, but 8 out of 9 of them are so bad that I refuse to use any more recipes from this book. I am an experienced home cook, and have used many different cookbooks. This one is hands-down the worst I have ever used. Here is why:1. Some of the recipes just aren't Mediterranean. Take, for example, "Beef Bourguignon" on page 43. The ingredients include 1 lb of stewing steak, 1/2 lb of bacon and 1 Tbs of olive oil with 3 other vegetable ingredients and several spices. This is the only recipe that I enjoyed eating, but it is not low in saturated fat and the largest portion of ingredients is the meat: this is not in-keeping with the Med. diet.2. The instructions are terrible: they leave out important information, the ingredients are not always listed in order of use in the recipe (an ingredient may be listed last but used in the first few steps while ingredients listed earlier may be used late in the recipe) and the recipes do not have steps they are just long paragraphs. One quick example: Let's go back to the beef bourguignon recipe above. The bacon is listed in the ingredients list as 1/2 lb. of bacon. It does not say 1/2 lb of cooked bacon or 1/2 lb of bacon, cooked. Yet, in the middle of the recipe paragraphs it says "Slice the cooked bacon into strips alongside the onion in your pot." Nowhere before the middle of the recipe say does it tell you to cook the bacon. This begs the question: do I add 1/2 lb of cooked bacon or cook 1/2 lb. of raw bacon and add that?3. The serving sizes for recipes are all over the place. Usually a cookbook keeps recipe sizes (the number of servings you will get from the final product) fairly consistent throughout. Not this cookbook. The recipe servings range from 2 to 11 and are not organized in any order; the number of servings changes from one recipe to another seemingly randomly. This may seem like a quibble, but if you buy this cookbook thinking (like you can with most cookbooks) that you will usually end up with somewhere near 4 servings, you may run into trouble as you find yourself making one with 2 or 11 servings because you didn't check to see what random number of servings the recipe you chose and shopped for happened to have. For example here are the numbers of servings per recipes for the 15 different recipes in "Chapter 4 Lamb Instant Pot Recipes" in the order that they appear in the chapter: 4, 5, 6, 5, 10, 4, 4, 6, 8, 4, 6, 8, 4, 6, 10. If you can find a pattern, then you are more astute than I.4. The Instant Pot times are too long thus the veggies often end up being over-soft. This is most noticeable in the Vegan and Vegetarian Instant Pot Recipes chapter. Unless you enjoy slurping slurry, stay away from any of the vegetarian options. The "Sweet Potato Spinach Curry with Chickpeas" on page 82 has a cook time of 10 minutes; this turns a curry into a slurry. The same consistency is found in "Cheesy Creamed Broccoli and Potato Soup" on page 77. Even though this is more predictable (this one being a soup) the cook time is 25 minutes and even if the recipe didn't tell you to puree the soup with an immersion blender, you'd still want to because the potatoes are an overcooked mealy mess after 25 minutes of pressure cooking.5. Okay, a quibble. There are no pictures. The cookbook is just recipe after recipe of poorly organized text. There's not even a hand drawing, no visuals beyond the bolded recipe and chapter titles. I know, it's a quibble, but how many times do they tell us that "we eat with our eyes first"?I am not trying to be a hater, it's just that I wanted this cookbook to be so much better than it was. It really looks and feels like a rough draft. It could benefit from better organization, better adherence to the Med. diet, better consistency in recipes, more recipe testing (to prevent overcooking) and some pictures. I hope that the author redoes the book, or that someone else creates a good Med. Diet IP cookbook because this one truly isn't it.

The book has been very helpful starting a healthier lifestyle. It contains daily recipes for meals and snacks that can be exchanged for other recipes in the book and an exercise section. I have started the plan this week, and I have found the recipes to be filling, and I feel great. Also, each recipe has nutritional information. Thank you for a great book to improve my overall health.

Bare bones basic ( if you can even call them that) recipes, some I would consider junk. And the book is falling apart, pages coming off the binding first time opening the book. Not worth the cheap price I paid. No photos inside the book, looks like computer printed pages. An example of this book: Same recipes ... chicken drumsticks in tomato sauce pg 52 and duck in tomato sauce pg 64, same recipe, but ingredients typed in different order. Sorry I bought this. Buyer beware.
